There’s no denying that we’re living through a mental health crisis. No matter who you are, your life has been touched by the impact of mental and emotional distress. This is because our mental health is influenced by more than just genetics — it is also deeply affected by our personal history and the broader social conditions of our lives.

Mental health is political. Like any form of health, our mental health has everything to do with how much access we have to the resources we need to be well, how cared for we feel in our relationships and communities, and how safe we feel moving through the world. Individual therapy, while hugely beneficial, is not enough to resolve the collective issues we’re facing. We need to respond collectively by creating a safer, more inclusive culture.

Big Feels Lab was formed out of a recognition that there will be no end to the mental health crisis without social change. We aim to support this change through free and low cost resources for individuals in need, healthcare providers, and organizations working with vulnerable populations. It is our goal to not only help support the mental health needs of historically underserved communities, but also provide education about their needs to medical providers and community leaders so they may receive more competent care.

If mental health can be negatively impacted by trauma and injustice, it can be positively impacted through personal and social healing. Together, we can create a world where mental health is possible and accessible to all. We hope you’ll join us in our efforts by volunteering, donating, or attending one of our workshops. We all deserve better, and that includes you.

Big feels,
